Scientific and Academic Contributions

Professor Ohri has a national and international reputation for scientific scholarship. Throughout his 22-year tenure as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon he has also held a joint Senior Lecturer Position with the University of Southampton. Professor Ohri was awarded a chair as Professor of Cardiac Surgery by the university in 2019 as recognition of his ongoing scientific endeavour.

Professor Ohri’s undertook post-doctoral research at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital as British Heart Foundation Fellow. He was awarded his post Bachelor of Medicine higher doctorate MD for his research into the pathophysiology of cardiopulmonary bypass and it’s impact on the gut. As a result, his ongoing research interests include the pathophysiology of cardiopulmonary bypass, bicuspid aortic valve disease and aortopathy, the impact of diabetes on the aortic valve and transcatheter interventions for valvular heart disease. He has supervised the research of numerous students and cardiac Surgical trainees, 9 of whom have successfully been awarded their own higher doctorates. He has been the recipient of 26 research grants and Principal Investigator of 31 studies.

Professor Ohri has authored 3 books on cardiac surgery and published more than 160 articles and numerous abstracts in leading scientific journals. A full list of his publications can be found here.
